Cheryl Hines thanked her longtime assistant, Sarita Williams, with a surprise garage makeover on Monday’s episode of Celebrity IOU on HGTV.
The 57-year-old actress enlisted the help of Jonathan and Drew Scott to convert the garage into an office and guest room for Sarita, who was helping the actress raise her 18-year-old daughter, Catherine.
“I worked on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Ever heard of it? No, it doesn’t matter, and I needed an assistant,” Cheryl quipped during the Season 5 episode.

“Someone said why don’t you meet up with Sarita, she’s actually from Tallahassee where you’re from,” she added.
Cheryl said she found out she was pregnant about a year and a half after Sarita started working with her.
“I looked at her and said, ‘What do you know about babies?’ Then she said, ‘Nothing.’ And I said, ‘Me neither.’ I said, ‘Maybe, you want to try it together?” , Cheryl recalled.
Cheryl welcomed daughter Catherine with ex-husband Paul Young in March 2004 before they filed for divorce in July 2010.

Sarita formed a strong bond with Catherine while helping raise her.
“Catherine means the world to me. She was, she was my best friend. Being best friends with a 0 month old to an 8 year old is crazy,” said Sarita.
Cheryl added, “As a parent, the only thing that really matters is that you raise your child to be the best person they can be and Sarita knows that and she knew that at the time. She taught Cat so much.”

Sarita later started her own family when Catherine got older and has two daughters with her husband Andrew.
The detached garage needed major work and Cheryl eagerly volunteered to help with the demolition while Sarita visited her mother for three and a half weeks.
The actress grunted as she helped knock down walls and shelves.

“The boys taught me that. You can’t scream because all that stuff will go in your mouth,” Cheryl said to the camera.
She was then shown knocking over a shelf and shooting a cloud of dust and rodent feces straight in her face.
“I have no idea how you got it right back to you,” Drew said as Cheryl flinched and stuttered.

Cheryl also helped choose interior colors, cabinet finishes, and floor designs with the twin brothers as she was looking for a “rich and sexy look.”
With just a week and a half left, the team worked on the stucco facade, which Jonathan found to also be fire and rot resistant.
Cheryl provided the finishing touches by bringing art transferred onto glass that Sarita’s children had drawn.

Sarita returned to her home in Glendale, California and closed her eyes as Cheryl escorted her into the renovated garage.
“Is that the garage? Holy Moly. Cheryl!” exclaimed Sarita.
The Property Brothers then surprised Sarita even more than they imagined.

“All of this just happened because Cheryl said you deserved it,” Drew said.
“I didn’t deserve this!” Sarita said.
“Of course you’re doing it because I wanted to give you something,” Cheryl told her.

Sarita loved all the changes and said the style was just right for her.
“You know, we used to call it sexy and rich,” Cheryl said.
Renovations included a Murphy bed for guests, office space, a new bathroom, walk-in closet and an outdoor lounge area with a fire pit.

Sarita’s husband Andrew and their daughters Leela and Pryia then came out to check out the garage renovation.
The family moment with “Aunt Cheryl” was crowned when Catherine showed up with ingredients for s’mores.
“It’s Catherine!” Sarita said before hugging Cheryl’s daughter.
Cheryl said Sarita and Catherine were inseparable for eight years while she was a busy actress.
They all toasted s’mores and then toasted Sarita as the episode ended.
