“I’m so excited about this project, the whole team is amazing,” Barber, 40, said in a statement.
“We’ve been working on this for a while and I’ve tried really hard to tell everyone about it. I’m drawn to projects that revolve around interesting, dynamic and complex female protagonists, and Wellmania is exactly that.”
She continued, “I’m thrilled to be working with Netflix and bringing this Australian story to an international audience, and also executive producing so I can boss people around.”

Taking to Instagram to share first look images of the series, Barber predicted what fans will think of the show.
“You will LOVE this show packed with a fabulous cast created by amazing writers and put together by the greatest crew,” she wrote in her caption.
The synopsis reads, “When food writer and human Tornado Liv (Celeste Barber) encounters a serious health crisis, she is forced to reassess her ‘live fast, die young’ attitude.
“After landing a once-in-a-lifetime job that will catapult her into the American mainstream, a series of unfortunate events in Australia see her denied re-entry to the States unless she repairs her health.

“She embarks on a body-first wellness journey, trying everything from the benign to the bizarre to recover quickly and reclaim her old life.”
The series also stars JJ Fong, Genevieve Mooy, Lachlan Buchanan, Remy Hii, Alexander Hodge, Simone Kessell, Virginie Laverdure and Johnny Carr.
Barber recently faced backlash from her devoted fans over her Marie Claire Australia cover.
She is seen in fashion magazine’s ‘Wellness’ issue in a red cut-out swimsuit by designer Melissa Odabash.
While some fans praised the glossy image Celeste shared on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday night, others were quick to condemn the “heavily filtered” image as “trash” – and they took to social media in droves to share their dismay.
Meanwhile, another fan took aim directly at Celeste, who has built a multi-million dollar brand poking fun at social media trends and body shaming
“Celeste talks about body shaming in the issue, but the magazine shamed her by over-editing it. The reason she has over 9 million followers is because she’s real – not that junk,” one fan wrote.
“Shame on Marie Claire for photoshopping the shit out of what would have been a naturally beautiful picture of Celeste to begin with,” added another.
“I really like Celeste but this is very filtered, I could barely recognize her… what a shame as she is naturally very pretty,” complained another.
However, the cover was also praised by many of Celeste’s admirers.
“Sensational,” TV veteran Jessica Rowe wrote alongside three love heart emojis.
While model Jess Hart preferred to keep her comment short and sweet, she captioned “Yes!” alongside a praying hands emoji.
