The Crif (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France) confirmed on Monday the death of Céline Ben David-Nagar, a young 32-year-old French woman who had been missing since October 7th.
The young mother of a six-month-old baby attended a music festival in southern Israel that was attacked by Hamas terrorists. Her family hoped she would be taken hostage. Yaëlle Krief, her friend and spokesperson for the young woman’s support committee, announced her death to Actu Lyon on Monday evening. “It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we inform you that Céline has been found. May his memory be blessed,” she said.
“Soldiers are coming to help us!”
Céline’s brother Samuel testified on BFMTV that he had difficulty finding her and called area hospitals to no avail. He said Celine was in her SUV, less than a kilometer from the party, when the sirens blared. “She went back to the house, there she talked to her husband (on the phone, editor’s note), she said: Soldiers are coming to help us!” But they weren’t soldiers, they were Hamas fighters, who shot at them.”
“Your husband found the car yesterday, completely machine-gunned,” the brother continued, “with the Hamas motorcycle behind it and blood from the driver.” But no news from Céline. From Israel, her husband started a message on BFMTV in tears. “Céline, if you see these pictures, your daughter Hélie is fine.” The latter had told the BBC that he had “not eaten or slept” since his disappearance. “You don’t sleep, you don’t eat and you live in a kind of crazy insecurity,” he told the British television station. “I want to believe that she lives there, in Gaza, and perhaps takes care of the children who were kidnapped with her. I just hope she knows we are fighting for her and that she tells herself she will come home,” he added.
