Celso Amorim on Brazilians in Gaza: “Absurd situation Check

Today, the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt was reopened for the departure of Egyptians and foreigners listed since November 1st.

There was no explanation for the noninclusion of the Brazilians. They simply gave priority to other countries,” emphasized Celso Amorim.

Let’s hope there is a quick decision [sobre os brasileiros]. We have been demanding release for more than 15 days. There is no reason to suspect. If there had been a problem with any of the nationals, they could have spoken up immediately. It is an absurd situation when there are 15 children in a group of 32 people

It is not yet known whether Brazilians are on the list of people eligible to leave Gaza. According to Itamaraty, the expectation is that they will be able to leave the region by Wednesday (8).

The group of Brazilians in Gaza consists of 34 people. Of these, 24 are Brazilians, seven are Palestinians with RNM (National Migration Registry) and three are Palestinians. Of these, 18 are children, 10 are women and six are men.

Brazilian Hasan Rabee, one of those waiting for permission to leave Gaza, said he was “very hopeful.” “(The reopening) is a good sign for the next few days, when we can already be on the list. We are very hopeful and will see if we can get out in the next few days,” he said in a video posted on social media.
