Center de Services Scolaire de Laval: criminal record check for 2,000 employees – TVA Nouvelles

TVA Nouvelles has learned that the Center de Services Scolaire de Laval is launching a major criminal record check against more than 2,000 employees, a process that began controversially.

In fact, the employer wanted to threaten to suspend workers who had not provided their personal information by Friday without pay to clean up their files.

However, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles, after speaking to the workers’ union, managing director Yves Michel Volcy conceded that this was not the approach he wanted and refrained from threatening to suspend the worker without pay.

The Center de Services Scolaire de Laval states that there is no report on an employee.

“We validated a certain number of employees for whom we had no criminal records in our system,” explains Mr. Volcy. It does not affect all employees, but about 20%.

“We sent out a notice asking them to send it to us and ensure all of our employee records are compliant.”

The CSSL is in the process of cleaning up the files of employees whose criminal records are incomplete.

Mr. Volcy adds that he is also aware of the arrests of teachers across Quebec for sex crimes against minors.

“You will understand that the news worries me. Based on this information, we have put this process in place to ensure that all employees working at the Center de Services Scolaire de Laval have a clean criminal record.
