Environment and Energy Ministers of Central America and the Dominican Republic.

SANTO DOMINGO, 27th October (RHC) The environment and energy ministers of Central America and the Dominican Republic this Thursday ratified their commitment to the energy transition through renewable energy sources.

In a press release, the Ministry of the Environment announced that strategies to develop a cross-sectoral agenda on the important matter were presented at a meeting chaired by the Dominican Republic’s Environment Minister and the pro-tempore President of the Central American Commission on Environment and Development, Miguel Ceara .

Specific objectives of the plan include: defining the sectoral work areas that will be part of the cross-sectoral environment and energy agenda, approving a roadmap specifying the actions and times needed to build the cross-sectoral agenda, and encouraging dialogue for articulation of regional work.

Also present at the meeting was that nation’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, who stressed: “The elaboration of proposals that combine environmental and energy efforts will benefit our peoples and modernize the economic structure of the nations represented here”.

From the Dominican Republic, we want to strengthen this open line of dialogue and believe that the expert groups that take care of this intersectoral connection will create or consolidate the appropriate cooperation mechanisms, he added.

He concluded by saying that it is important to emphasize that natural phenomena, such as droughts and high temperatures, are increasing year after year due to the effects of climate change, which together produce other disasters. (Source:PL)
