As every year, TCL renews its range of televisions. The Chinese manufacturer uses CES 2023 to announce the arrival of the C845, the successor to the very good C835 that we tested. The C835’s 288-zone mini-LED system is replaced by a mini-LED backlight system with 20,000 mini-LEDs managed in 2000 separate zones. TCL announces a brightness peak of 20 to 30%, which could make 1500 cd/m² possible.
For the rest, it retains a 144 Hz VA LCD panel with Ultra HD resolution, compatibility with all HDR formats (HDR10, HLG, HDR10+, Dolby Vision IQ), the Google TV system with one built into the TV Microphone for hands-free control, as well as HDMI 2.1 connectivity with support for VRR, ALLM and FreeSync. The novelty comes from DTS Virtual: X compatibility in addition to Dolby Atmos, as well as the presence of wifi 6 (802.11ax). As with the C835, the TV stand is still height-adjustable in two positions so that a soundbar can be inserted there.
The TCL C845 TV will be available from May 2023 in 55, 65, 75, 85 and 98 inch versions. Prices are expected to start at €1,000 for the 55-inch version and over €5,000 for the 98-inch version. At the advertised prices, Oled models like the LG C2 seem more attractive, but TCL has a habit of offering big discounts that make its TVs very interesting in terms of value for money.
