CF Montreal signed forward Kwadwo “Mahala” Opoku from Los Angeles FC on Wednesday.
Montréal, in turn, will assign a general award amount of US$1,650,000 in 2023 and US$100,000 in 2024.

Additionally, the Montreal team secured a US$100,000 general award from the LAFC in 2024 for an international berth in 2023.
“We are very pleased with this acquisition. “He’s a young player who already has good experience in the league, especially after winning the MLS Cup last year by being a crucial player at LAFC,” explained CF’s vice president and chief sporting director in a press release Montreal, Olivier Renard.
“He will be able to offer us something different than the other players we have in terms of his speed and his ability to play one-on-one. This is a profile that we lacked in our workforce. I’m confident he can continue his progress with us,” added Renard.
The 21-year-old player from Ghana played for the California team for three and a half seasons. He played 60 regular season games, including 35 starts, for a total of 3,254 minutes of play. Opoku totaled nine goals and seven assists.
He won the MLS Cup with the Los Angeles team. The forward played four games in the recent Garber Tour playoffs. He also caused a stir in his old team’s 3-0 win over Austin FC in the Western Conference Finals last October.
