CF Montreal in the Canadian Championship final

CF Montreal secured their ticket to the Canadian Championship final by defeating Forge FC at the Stade Saputo on Wednesday night.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) team defeated the defending Canadian Premier League (PLC) champions 2-0.

It was the third time in as many instances that the eleven had the best team against Forge FC during the tournament and brought the Maple Leaf formation together.

In the duel of the day, Ariel Lassiter scored the first goal in the 54th minute. The striker fired a long-range shot. It seemed harmless, but the ball still ended up in goalkeeper Triston Henry. It was also the Costa Rican’s first success in the blue-white-black uniform.

Sunusi Ibrahim doubled the crowd favorite’s lead 24 minutes after CF Montreal’s first win. He made a nice maneuver to create space and fired a powerful shot. The 20-year-old forward is clearly on the side against the Hamilton side after scoring a hat-trick in the teams’ last meeting.

CF Montreal were in control for most of the game. Head coach Hernan Losada’s players fired 21 shots, six of which were on target. On the other side of the ball, Forge FC representatives shot eight times and the ball hit Jonathan Sirois’ goal twice. The Quebec goaltender took the opportunity to sign his fifth shutout of the season, across all competitions.

In the final, CF Montreal meets the winner of the duel between the Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS) and Pacific FC (PLC). The two clubs will face off later in the evening. The winner will also host the duel that will decide who wins the Voyageurs Cup and qualifies for the 2024 Concacaf Champions League.
