CF Montreal Not easy to win abroad

CF Montreal: Samuel Piette doesn’t want to change coach

CF Montreal’s successes have been mixed in Hernan Losada’s first season at the helm, but Samuel Piette says the coach needs to be given time to build a solid foundation for the future.

The captain returned to this campaign, which ended with a hiccup, admitting that the year had gone much less well than the previous one. Defensive passivity and attacking difficulties were part of Piette’s speech during his press conference on Tuesday.

“There were things that didn’t work so well. Additions were made that didn’t fit the team and players we have. The style of play we had this year wasn’t that good. […] We have a very young team. I think the first year of the coach and his team was about knowing the players well. “It doesn’t happen quickly,” explained the Quebecer.

Losada has another year left on his contract to prove he is the man for the job. According to Piette, the Argentine and his assistants need to find a style of play that the players like and that pays off.

“If Hernan Losada and his staff leave [l’équipe] At the end of the year it wouldn’t be good for us players because we would be starting from scratch. “Still, we were no longer two or three seconds away from winning the MLS Cup,” said the 28-year-old midfielder.

potential

According to those primarily concerned, CF Montreal had the seeds to win the league title in 2022. The core was different, the injuries were fewer and Wilfried Nancy had time to impose his vision of things.

If he keeps his job for a second year, Losada will have to pick things up with some, particularly designated player Victor Wanyama.

“I am confident that this organization is in good hands. There are very good people behind every decision made,” said the man, who insisted on keeping his entire report in English to better explain himself.

“I think there is a lot of stability in this team that needs to be built according to a very precise vision. “I am very proud to be part of this organization,” assured Losada. I learned a lot. I’m surrounded by people who know a lot, and that wasn’t the case in my previous experiences.”

CF Montreal finished 10th in the Eastern Association, two small points out of the playoffs. His -16 differential and 2-13-2 road record will certainly be part of the discussion this offseason.
