CF Montreal: Samuel Piette, the only captain on board

Quebec’s Samuel Piette has been named the official captain of CF Montreal after wearing the armband several times in recent seasons.

The club announced this on Tuesday evening at the start of the season.

The Le Gardeur defensive midfielder was co-captain with Victor Wanyama last season. Kenyan and defender Kamal Miller will remain Piette’s assistants.

“I’m very proud of this title, which shows that I have the confidence of the club, the head coach and the players,” he said in a press release. I want to continue fulfilling this role to the best of my ability to continue pushing this team in the right direction, achieving new goals and continuing to make fans proud of our team.”

Upon arriving in Montreal in 2017, Piette completed 145 games in the Bleu Blanc Noir jersey, including 129 starts. CF granted him a three-year contract extension last October.

“Samuel is a positive leader and a role model to follow on and off the pitch,” added head coach Hernan Losada. He is the player who now has the most minutes with the club, showing his loyalty and commitment to the organisation. He is a disciplined player who sets an example and communicates very well with the whole group in several languages, which creates a good atmosphere in the dressing room.

Still looking for a first win in Major League Soccer this season, Impact will open its home game on Saturday with a clash at the Olympic Stadium against the Philadelphia Union.
