CF Montreal swaps Aaron Herrera

CF Montreal acquired defender Ruan from DC United on Tuesday, but many of the team's fans know the player best for the injury he inflicted on Ignacio Piatti in 2019.

The Argentine midfielder was forced to miss most of this season, his last in Major League Soccer (MLS), due to that questionable contact with the Brazilian in March. Back when he was playing for Orlando City SC, Ruan kicked Nacho's leg with his soccer shoes.

Two years later, he scored his first career goal in the Garber circuit against Montreal. Fans need to make peace with him, especially since he was traded for the reliable Aaron Herrera. The Bleu-Blanc-Noir also received a general grant of $500,000.

“We are pleased to acquire Ruan, one of the league’s best at the right-back position,” said Olivier Renard, vice president and chief sporting officer of CF Montreal, in a press release. With his excellent speed and good crossing skills, he will fit in very well with our style of play. I would like to thank Aaron for his last season with us and we wish him the best of luck for the rest of his career. »

Herrera moved to CF Montreal last year after spending five seasons with Real Salt Lake. The 26-year-old American played 19 games for the Quebec club in 2023. In total he gave two assists.

For his part, Ruan is a 28-year-old full-back with six seasons of experience in the MLS. He wore the colors of DC United (2023) and Orlando (2019 to 2022). Last season he collected six assists in 24 games.
