This is the seventh time in eight games that Hernan Losada’s side have been evicted. The good news is that they lost by a smaller margin than they have in recent games. But the crowd that had flocked to the stadium in large numbers deserved much more.
After an uneventful first half, United went 1-0 up early in the second half when Lewis O’Brien scored the goal by jumping on a loose ball that just hit the post of Montreal left goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois had.
However, the Montreal team then limited the damage, as always far too sterile in attack to even be able to hope for an equaliser.
In his first game since being traded in the trade that sent Kamal Miller to Miami, young American midfielder Bryce Duke didn’t look bad, even allowing himself one of two shots on Montreal’s goal during the game. However, it is not enough to hope for a resale. The other player added to the deal, Ariel Lassiter, came on for Ilias Iliadis in the second half but wasn’t noticed all that much.
CF Montreal will not have much time to rest after another defeat as they face Vaughan Azzurri, a semi-professional club from Ontario, in a Canadian championship match on Tuesday. The New York Red Bulls then visit the Stade Saputo on Saturday.
