The Montreal Canadiens’ start to the season is part of the challenge the Alouettes face to gain attention as the soccer club begins its playoff run soon.
“It will always be a challenge to attract crowds,” concludes Alouettes president Mark Weightman. Festivals and other events take place in summer. We know that the entertainment on offer in Montreal is absolutely incredible. We are currently returning to the hockey season and that will certainly be part of our challenge, but it has always been that way.”

Whenever possible, the CFL considers the National Hockey League’s schedule before making its playoff schedule. In Montreal, the Alouettes will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Eastern semifinals on Saturday, November 4th, starting at 3 p.m. The Canadian will play an international game that day, in St. Louis in the evening.
“We’re always trying to adapt, we know hockey takes up a lot of space across Canada,” Mr. Weightman said. We need to make sure we have a complementary offering and not have our games at the same time. In the vast majority of cases, we make sure to choose our moments carefully.”
