The Montreal Canadiens are not fortunate enough to have an elite player in their ranks. No big names like Connor McDavid or Nathan MacKinnon. And that’s what worries former NHL player Philippe Boucher.
“As long as Martin St-Louis and Chantal Machabée are the two big stars of the Montreal Canadiens, we’re not going to win many hockey games,” Boucher said Monday during the JiC show. […] I’m careful when I say this because these are two people I respect very much, but who are we building around in Montreal? Who are our superstars?
Boucher quickly drew comparisons to the heavyweights Colorado Avalanche, the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“In Los Angeles we have a solid team, we have a lot of good players, we drafted well and we kept our veterans,” analyzed Boucher. Elsewhere we’re trying to win the Stanley Cup, we did it in Colorado, we’re trying to do it in Edmonton, well that’s not working at the moment, Toronto too. They are superstars.
“Who is our core that we want to build around in Montreal? Who are our superstars? I don’t see many of them. I love Caufield, I love Suzuki, but as long as they’re unchallenged in the front row, on the first power play with Anderson as the bumper, we’re not going to win many hockey games in Montreal.
