As of Monday, March 4, 2024, new changes took effect when booking appointments through the CBP One application, a route introduced to appear before immigration authorities at the Mexico-United States border.
As the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced, the time period for making an appointment has been adjusted. Every day, non-citizens in the central and northern states of Mexico can make an appointment at CBP One between 12:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time*.
The platform now allows users To all their family members or fellow travelers who share a common destination address in the United States.
Users selected for an appointment will receive a notification (approximately 12pm) via the application and email they provided. Those selected will have up to 23 hours to confirm the appointment. This includes conducting a geolocation check to ensure they are within the designated area, as well as conducting photo capture and life detection. People who were not selected in the first cycle can request a new appointment on the platform.
The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorities warned that in order to prevent possible fraud, they are continually monitoring and evaluating the application to ensure its functionality and protect against misconduct. Therefore, registrations and accounts identified as fraudulent will be deleted.
In May 2023, CBP announced changes to the application to make it easier to request appointments at ports of entry on the U.S.-Mexico border and initiate the process to apply for political asylum. On this occasion, the number of available appointments was expanded, the processing time for applications was extended and those who had waited the longest were given priority. The 2023 updates responded to the reactivation of Title 8 of the United States Immigration Law.
CBP One offers appointments at eight ports of entry on the southwest border and applicants must be physically located in central or northern Mexico. The application was launched in October 2020 to request inspection appointments and process Form I-94 (Registration of Entry and Exit to the Territory of the United States). It is currently also used to make appointments for asylum applications at the border. Asylum allows you to apply for international protection if you demonstrate a credible fear of persecution in your country of origin.
