The information, first released in the press, was confirmed by a spokesman for the couple in the evening.

“We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to leave their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” the spokesman said without giving further details.

According to daily newspapers The Sun and The Telegraph, Buckingham Palace sent “an eviction notice” to the couple, who left Britain with a bang in 2020 and have since multiplied attacks on the monarchy.

Frogmore Cottage, a 5-bedroom residence near Windsor Castle in west London, was given to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by Elizabeth II in 2018 as a wedding gift.

The renovations, which the couple undertook at a taxpayer expense of more than €2million, had shocked and Prince Harry had to pay them back once his departure with Meghan Markle was taped.

According to The Sun, Charles III would not have offered the “Sussex” a new residence, thereby depriving them of any royal address during their rare trips to the UK, a decision that sounds like sanctioning after the publication of Harry at the beginning of January his book The Substitute , in which he settles accounts with his family.

In particular, he reports a heated argument with his older brother William, heir to the throne, about his wife Meghan and accuses Queen Consort Camilla of disclosing private conversations in the press.

This decision is likely to exacerbate the conflicts within the institution, while the couple is already fighting in court against the withdrawal of special police protection.

With two months to go before the king’s coronation, the issue of Harry and Meghan’s attendance at the ceremony has still not been officially decided, although some media reports that they have been invited.

According to The Sun, the King would have asked Prince Andrew to live at Frogmore Cottage to scale down the lifestyle of his younger brother, who currently resides at the luxurious Royal Lodge estate in Windsor.

Andrew fell out of favor following allegations of sexual assault and his friendship with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexually abusing a minor.

The king would therefore consider scrapping his annual allowance of £250,000 (around €283,000).
