Charles Jourdain was beside himself afterwards his split decision loss at UFC 297Saturday evening, in Toronto.
The Quebec fighter blamed the work of officials. Two of them gave a card of 29-28 in favor of the American Sean Woodson, while the other judged Jourdain the winner by the same result.
When asked “What made the difference?” TVA sportswriter Anthony Martineau asked, Jourdain replied, “A drunken judge.”
“That’s double. “It doesn’t make me want to move on,” he continued. I just lost several hundred thousand dollars. It must be over $200,000 that I lost in the UFC due to split decisions. It hurts. The desire to continue prevailed.”
Jourdain (15-7-1) was seeking a third straight win, but the lanky Woodson (11-1-1) did enough to thwart him, according to two of the three judges. He really doesn't agree with them. He is convinced that he deserves a much better fate.
“I gave more than him in the second and third rounds. Since he is tall, it was very difficult to adjust to his reach. I made the adjustments and won the second and third rounds. The “masses” know it, everyone knows it.
“I kicked him in the calf, I took away his mobility, I landed good shots, I made takedown and submission attempts,” Jourdain listed. I did everything more than him. That's what hurts. We should give the win to the one who tried the most, and I tried harder, I threw with more volume. It hit me because it has a long range, but they weren't effective hits. Everyone was surprised (at the result).”
