[EN VIDÉO] Artificial intelligence in space The next major astronomical projects will generate enormous amounts of data that humans will have to process…
After many twists and turns, OpenAI has officially launched its Internet browsing feature via ChatGPT. When it was released to the public, the database used by the famous generative chatbot was limited to the data available on the web until September 2021. This limitation made it possible to ensure the stability of the AI and to better control its content. Last March, OpenAI began opening the data floodgates on the web. This resulted in numerous embezzlements and abuses. So the publisher backed out several times this summer before reconnecting to the web via Bing in late September. But while it was still an experimental version today, the chatbot can now be used for navigation thanks to Bing’s web indexing database. However, the offer is reserved for OpenAI Plus and Enterprise subscribers.
A chatbot that sees, hears and responds to information from the web
What changes as a result is that ChatGPTChatGPT in its third version can not only get answers based on “fresh” content from the web, but is also mixed with the Dall.E image generator. Images and web content can now be viewed directly in ChatGPT. It is also possible to search for answers based on images by uploading a photo so that the chatbot can find all the information about it via the web. With this update, the chatbot is enriched with information from the live web, images and also audio, as voice communication with it is possible. Is this time the right one? In any case, OpenAI seems confident in the reliability of its chatbot, as this live web access feature is enabled by default for paying subscribers.
American publisher Open AI has just announced that its conversational agent ChatGPT has now been able to overcome “the whispers of knowledge” that previously blocked it in September 2021. It is now possible that he can access data after this date and in real time thanks to the integration with the search engine Microsoft Microsoft Bing.

It’s been a long time coming: ChatGPT can now surf the entire web and have access to the most up-to-date information. Previously, the intelligent chatbot was limited to sources until September 2021 at the latest. This new feature is available on ChatGPT Plus and should be available to everyone very soon.
Not a day goes by without a new announcement about ChatGPT. After integrating the DALL-E image generation tool into ChatGPT Plus and promising new features this fall to include the ability to talk to the conversation agent and analyze photos in addition to writing simple prompts, OpenAI is breaking the time barrier. Until then, the information provided to ChatGPT was limited until the end of 2021, with the exception of special plugins for premium version subscribers.
Thanks to Microsoft Bing, it can now take into account the latest information available on the web. Note that ChatGPT systematically provides the link to its sources in order to immediately verify the authenticity of the information provided.
To enable this feature, you must enable “Search with Bing” in the “Beta Features” section of your account settings. You can then use it as you wish by selecting that exact option (Search with Bing) in the GPT-4 options menu. Be careful though, it is not possible to combine the use of Bing and plugins. Browsing is available now for ChatGPT Plus users and will be available to everyone “very soon.”
With this new functionality, ChatGPT joins some competitors that already offer navigation across the web, such as Bing Chat, the Edge browser on Windows or even Google Bard.
OpenAI releases several plugins for ChatGPT. One of them, currently in alpha testing, allows him to pull information from the web to enrich his answers. Is it a good idea?

One of ChatGPT’s limitations is that it essentially gets stuck in these responses to dates, events, and people whose information predates September 2021. Regular updates have kept the information current. Later data, but until now artificial intelligence did not know how to independently search for data on the web.
This is now possible thanks to the plugins OpenAI added yesterday. They allow access to external sources and databases and even search for information directly on the web. Currently these options are only available in the alpha version. These plugins will only be available to a limited number of developers and users who have opted for the chatbot’s premium plan.
After this testing phase, the plugins are then accessible to everyone. The plugin that adds precise web search queries. When ChatGPT is deliberately restricted, it is precisely to better filter content and limit access to unreliable content. Knowing that ChatGPT can easily go wrong despite this control, direct access to search engines could well make the phenomenon worse.
Worrying precedents
We recall Facebook’s unfortunate experience with its chatbot BlenderBot 3.0, which quickly delved into conspiracy theories and anti-Semitism due to the viral content it had access to. Similarly, in 2021, OpenAI tried to experiment with connecting to the internet with an AI called WebGPT. The system, which searched the Internet for answers, tended to rely on unreliable but popular sources.
It remains to be seen how ChatGPT will fare with this new feature. Among the other plugins we also find a Python code interpretation function. It supports uploading files to the chatbot and can also upload the generated file. This process allows editing and converting files from one format to another. In addition, OpenAI stated that it would like to further develop its plugin policy for ChatGPT and, for example, allow companies to create them according to their own needs.
