OpenAI had previously made headlines with DALL-E, an artificial intelligence (AI) program capable of creating images from text descriptions. In summary, ChatGTP-3 can do the same thing, but with text: the robot can answer a variety of questions and explain scientific concepts, write a theater scene, write a university thesis… or lines of perfectly working computer code.
Achievements so impressive that they reignite the debate about the risks associated with artificial intelligence technologies. But unlike Siri, he lacks one thing: humor.
Two very different AIs
If you ask Siri where Elvis Presley is, here’s his answer: “My sources mention Area 51. But I can’t tell you more, it’s a secret defense…”. An answer that will make you smile.
ChatGPT remains more sober: “I’m sorry, but I can’t answer this question because I’m a computer language model and I don’t have access to real-time information. Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, so his current whereabouts are unknown. » You can compare these answers in our screenshots below.

The difference between these answers comes from the different design of these two AIs. Siri has preset replies. “It is based on a huge decision tree. When a question is asked, the system follows the tree, moving from branch to branch to find the correct answer. This is the whole difference from ChatGPT, whose program is based on deep learning. This system, which has already made great progress in AI, allows more and more sophisticated programs to be learned and no longer just spit out sentences that have been learned by heart. It is the databases they are fed with – including Wikipedia with its tens of millions of entries – that act like a textbook. “ChatGPT will process a huge data set for months and learn by itself to answer human questions,” says Alexei Grinbaum.
ChatGPT remains the most advanced chatbot. He can write poetry, an essay or a children’s story. So we’re a long way from asking Siri little questions. “Making ChatGPT a virtual friend is much easier than Siri because she can talk about anything in the world,” says Alexei Grinbaum. But you need to teach ChatGPT a little compassion, sympathy, humor… It has it, but needs to learn to release it at the right time. »
