First it was the reggaeton pop “Tú y yo”, then the ballad “Te amo y periodo”. Now, Chayanne returns to a taste of tropical music with “Bailando bachata,” the third single from his highly anticipated upcoming album, out Thursday (May 25) at 8:00pm ET.

“I love the genre,” Chayanne told Billboard Español ahead of the premiere, noting that he’s visited Santo Domingo countless times and that “anywhere in the world, if you play Caribbean music like salsa, merengue or bachata, you love to dance.” I’m very close, so I’m very excited.”

“How lucky I am that I can see you every day when I wake up / and when I travel I miss you / I have your photo in my bag,” begins the romantic track released by Sony Music Latin, with which the artist co-wrote by Yasmil Marrufo, Andy Clay Cruz Felipe and Mario Alberto Cáceres Pacheco. “We are the glass and the wine/ You and I have been together since we met,” says part of the chorus.

Equally romantic is the music video, shot in a Mediterranean-style home in Miami, directed by Katherine Díaz and produced by Guacamaya Films. Set in the 1970s, the clip shows Venezuelan actress and model Veronica Schneider, who is reclining on the sofa at home to watch her favorite series – starring Chayanne – when she realizes that the artist is seeing her on screen can.

“When I’m on TV, be careful because I’m watching you!” he warns Billboard Spanish, laughing.

“Bailando bachata” isn’t Chayanne’s first foray into the Dominican genre, which he had already “flirted” with almost a decade ago with “Bailando dos corazonas,” a pop-fusion. The new song, he explains, “is something more faithful, more complete, which I’m really excited about.”

The 3:15 track is part of an eight song album that will be quite eclectic and based on the first three singles. Also, when asked if he would record a piece of regional Mexican music, which is currently enjoying huge international success, Chayanne couldn’t help but eagerly reply, “Yes! Also!”

“I started flirting with a lot of rhythms without leaving the backbone of pop,” he said. “But yes, the Mexican region, you guessed right. There is something of that genre too and the song is beautiful.”

As for the release of the highly-anticipated album — his first studio album since 2014’s En Todo Estaré, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart — he said he’s fully completed recording and that he hopes to make one Album to make announcement very soon.

“Right now we’re in the process of mastering, so it’s a matter of setting a date.”
