The Pulitzer Prize for News Photography was presented to the AP agency on Monday (8) in recognition of a series of notable images from the war in Ukraine.

The winning photo package included an image of rescue workers carrying a pregnant woman (who later died) through the ruined compound of a maternity hospital in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol after a Russian attack.

Another, in a still life, showed Bucha’s occupation of Russia for a month: a dog standing next to the corpse of an elderly woman who had been killed.

And another captured an elderly woman kneeling in pain next to her son’s coffin at Mykulychi Cemetery on the outskirts of Kiev.
