There will never be another Star Trek: The Next Generation. The franchise has made several attempts to replicate Next Generation since the series aired, but nothing has come close to capturing the specific magic that the show exuded. Aside from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the direct Next Generation spin-off, every Trek show since TNG has, in one way or another, failed to garner the rave reception that recent seasons of Next Generation have had.
It’s important to clarify that the past few seasons of Next Generation have been critically successful because the show’s first two seasons were far from stellar. Much like the early seasons of TNG, modern Star Trek shows have become equally polarizing in their portrayal of the franchise. The only difference is that Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds haven’t yet received the universal stamp of approval from the entire fandom like TNG eventually did.
A modern Star Trek series that seems to be gaining universal acclaim as of late is Star Trek: Picard. With its third season serving as a heavy tribute to the glory days of Star Trek: The Next Generation, seemingly every Star Trek fan is beginning to rally behind the series’ unique vision of Picard and the TNG cast. In the video linked above, the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation sits down with IGN to bag Picard season 3 and talk about the show that has made them household names.
