Final score: Chelsea 2-0 Bournemouth
Peep peep! Chelsea have won a Premier League game for the first time since mid-October. They did the work in the first half as Kai Havertz and Mason Mount scored lovely goals and the right flank trio of Mount, Reece James and Raheem Sterling caused all sorts of problems.
Bournemouth were better in the second half without ever really threatening to make a game out of it. The only downside for Chelsea was another injury to James, who was substituted early in the second half; we don’t know how bad it is yet.

90+5 min: Chance for Bournemouth! A nice Dembele cross from the right is headed just wide of the far post by Solanke from eight yards out. That was a really good chance of consolation against his old club.
90+4 mins Anthony’s free-kick goes straight for Kepa, who hits it over the bar.
90+3 mins After an exciting run, Zemura is fouled by Koulibaly just before the penalty area. Not sure if it was a foul – he appeared to be on the ball – but that’s a chance for Bournemouth…
90+1 mins Five minutes of stoppage time.
90 mins We have a few technical hiccups, although the image returned in time to see Lewis Cook parry a long-range shot.
88 mins Another change for Chelsea, with Trevoh Chalobah replacing Raheem Sterling, who scored the opening goal and had one of his better nights as a Chelsea player.
86 mins Another corner for Bournemouth that really makes Chelsea work for the goal they conceded. Christie circles it in, Kepa hits it clear and the referee calls it a foul anyway.
85 mins Thiago Silva makes another important near post interception after a good ball from Lerma and a low cross from Smith (I think).
85 min: Bournemouth substitution Siriki Dembele replaces Kieffer Moore.
84 mins Zemura’s dangerous cross is slapped away by falling Kepa. Chelsea go into the break and Havertz takes out Gallagher, whose shot is well blocked by Kelly on the edge of the box.
82 min: Double change for Chelsea Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Conor Gallagher replace Christian Pulisic and Denis Zakaria.
81 min Anthony’s deep corner is looked well wide by Kelly. Didn’t have much of a chance.
81 min After a brisk overtaking maneuver on the left, Zemura’s driven cross is blocked by Thiago Silva.
79 min: Good save from Kepa! That was probably Bournemouth’s best chance of the game. Lerma played a great angled ball to find Christie on the right side of the box. He pinged a low shot from a tight angle, which was well blocked by Kepa.

78 mins It feels like the match is ending. Mind you, we also said that at this stage of the World Cup final.
76 mins Victory is the most important thing for Chelsea – Pulitzer please! – but they will also want to concede, especially after their defensive struggles ahead of the World Cup.
74 mins And now Pulisic squirts a half-volley from the edge of the penalty area over the bar.

73 mins Chelsea play a right corner to Azpilicueta, whose excellent cross from Koulibaly just heads wide of the far post. It was quite a good effort.
72 mins Lerma shoots into orbit from 25 meters. Despite Bournemouth playing much better, they haven’t tested Kepa yet.

71 min Azpilicueta had a bit of a nosebleed but he can carry on.
70 minutes Anthony’s corner is thrown off balance by Azpilicueta, who goes down holding his face. There is a break in play while he is treated.
69 mins Lerma wins a corner for Bournemouth, who are having their best time with sustained pressure…
68 mins Chelsea’s next game will be at Nottm Forest on New Year’s Day; then they play twice in the league and in the FA Cup against Man City. Bournemouth is at home at Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve; then they go to Old Trafford.
66 min: Bournemouth substitution Ryan Christie replaces Philip Billing, a good player who had a quiet night.
64 mins Mount cuts in from the left, uses the overlaying Havertz by not using it and whistles a low drive from 20 meters, which is pushed around the post by the diving Travers. Well saved.
64 mins It was a more even second half and at times Bournemouth pressed very effectively. But there’s no real sign of them coming back into play.
63 mins “Jesper Blomqvist made his debut against Charlton Athletic,” says Al Travers, quite rightly. “The best thing about Jesper has to be that he had his own cooking show ‘Cooking with Jesper’ instead of playing for Manchester United due to injury.”
61 mins Marc Cucurella’s boot was torn by Cook after a late tackle. Chelsea have shrunk to 10 men while sorting out a replacement; In fact, he now wears strange boots.
60 mins Kai Havertz 1-1 Jeff Sachs. He just missed a good chance for his second, firing from 10 yards out after a graceful run from the right.
59 mins Anthony’s deflected long-range shot is easily parried by Kepa. Chelsea thought Mount had just been fouled but that didn’t matter in the end.
57 mins “Now I understand why Azpilicueta has such a pained expression on his face,” says Jeff Sachs. “He’s rubbing Vicks up his nostrils!!! Crazy.”
Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? Next you’re going to tell me not to suck a Berocca pill.

55 mins Mount does an excellent job of chipping off Zakaria, whose shot deflects off the edge of Zemura’s box and goes over the bar.
53 mins Havertz leads a nice ball into Zemura for Sterling, whose cutback is cut wide by Zakaria from about 12 yards. I think a Bournemouth defender touched the ball slightly just before Zakaria.
52 min: Chelsea substitution James gets to his feet and walks off the field to be replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta. It’s really sad – he’s a really great footballer who just can’t take a break at the moment.
