Chelsea have agreed with Mauricio Pochettino to become their new head coach.

Details of the deal are expected to be finalized in the coming days. Pochettino will take up his new role in the summer, with Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and son Sebastiano Pochettino joining him at Stamford Bridge as his backroom team. Club coaches will also join his team.

Pochettino will work with Chelsea’s sporting directors and interim manager Frank Lampard before the end of the season.

The Argentine has retired from football since giving up his role at Paris Saint-Germain in July last year.

Chelsea have been on the hunt for a new permanent head coach since Graham Potter was sacked last month, with former head coach Lampard taking over as interim manager for the remainder of the season.

Pochettino found fame at Espanyol and Southampton before enjoying a hugely successful spell at Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham.

He helped Spurs qualify for the top four in four consecutive seasons and led them to their maiden Champions League final in 2019.

He was sacked the following season before taking over as head coach at PSG in January 2021.

In May 2021 he won the Coupe de France before clinching the Ligue 1 title the following season.

Chelsea have endured an extremely difficult season, with both Potter and Thomas Tuchel paying the price with their jobs.

Lampard was appointed caretaker manager in April and secured his first win after six straight defeats with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth in May.

On Saturday they drew against Nottingham Forest.
