Alliance of Lima will participate in a new edition of the Libertadores Cup. For the ongoing 2023 season, the blue and white team has been reinforced with various experienced players in order not only to achieve the three-time championship in the Betsson 1 League, but also to reach the continental competition after being eliminated in the group stage for several years. After the draw in Conmebol, it was announced that the intimate squad will share Group G with Atlética Mineiro, Atlético Paranaense and Libertad.
In this sense, Alianza Lima coach Guillermo ‘Chicho’ Salas was asked about the formation of the groups and indicated that he doesn’t think he will have more than one team from Brazil.
“In the Copa Libertadores there are no easy opponents, everyone is difficult. After the draw, all the series are very even. It wasn’t in our plans that two Brazilian teams play against us, but it was. (We took it) with a lot of responsibility, calm down, know what they are as teams worldwide, but also know what we have,” he said in an interview for GolPerú.
The 48-year-old coach also assured that he has full confidence in the team that founded Alianza Lima because they have players who want to make it in this continental tournament. “We have a good team, good players, a team that wants to keep up, win and compete. I’m sure it will be a good trophy (Libertadores) for us,” he said.
