Jameson Williams

Alabama WR Junior

TRADE FORECAST WITH PATRIOTS

With Tyreke Hill moving his talents to Miami, the Chiefs could use another quick playmaker. Williams has a torn ACL, but Andy Reed should still be interested in giving two picks (their compensatory pick in round three and a designated pick in round four) to the Patriots to lock him up.

How far can executives fall in 2022? | Bleach Report

As the Chiefs score with league and Super Bowl MVPs at Mahomes, they’ll need extra help from the defense that helped the team bounce back from a 3-4 start last season. Kansas City allowed 17 or fewer points in six straight games between Weeks 8 and 14, recording 16 rushes during that stretch.

In 2021, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo fielded a squad that bent but didn’t break, finishing eighth in scoring and conceding sixth in yards. Now the front office has to replace Ward at the border and it looks like the team has signed Justin Reid to take Mathieu’s place next to Juan Thornhill.

As it stands, Kansas City will lose a pair of starting guards who had five interceptions and 16 passes last season. Reid isn’t a reliable defender in either the box or the playoff because he’s missed at least 14.3 percent of his tackle attempts over the past two seasons – a whiff on an open field can cost the Chiefs a ton of yards. Without Mathieu, the defense loses some of its versatility and leadership (three-year-old team captain):

ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky has a message for chiefs doubting The Spun

On Friday’s Get Up, Orlovsky dismissed the idea that the Chiefs’ offense couldn’t be “the way it was” when they had Hill. He thinks the Chiefs offense will be different, but not much worse.

“I think it’s a little stupid and ignorant of us to say that this crime cannot be the same as in the case of Tyreke Hill. Everything will just be different, ”Orlovsky said.

Orlowski explained that the Chiefs built this team to put Patrick Mahomes in the spotlight. He pointed out that the Chiefs still have many weapons that could fill the void left by Hill.

Agent’s Perspective: Ten contract-related thoughts and observations at the start of the NFL offseason | CBS Sports

The Chiefs’ six-year reign as AFC West champions could be coming to an end with key losses other than Hill being traded to the Dolphins. In 2022, the minor player will look different. Cornerback Charvarius Ward signed a three-year, $40.5 million contract with $26.2 million guaranteed with the 49ers. Matthew will not return. Justin Reid received a three-year, $31.5 million contract with a full $20.485 million replacement guarantee.

The wide receiver is likely to be Kansas City’s priority in the upcoming NFL Draft. Márquez Valdez-Scantling reportedly signed a three-year, $30 million contract to make up for Hill’s departure. Juju Smith-Shuster previously signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with promotions worth up to $10.75 million.

George Karlaftis EDGE

Kansas City

Karlaftis is a player I liked going into the 2021 season but whose stock has fallen a bit in my eyes. He’s still strong and plays with the ferocity you want to see, but he’s still the same player he was when I saw him as a freshman. It makes me wonder if it’s already a finished product, and while it’s worth having on your team, I don’t think you want to take it too soon. It’s a good place for him, though, as the Chiefs need to get younger up front.

NFL Free Agency 2023: Ranking Too Early Next Offseason’s Best Free Agent Potential Including Lamar Jackson And Deebo Samuel | ESPN

1. Lamar Jackson, QB Baltimore Ravens

Entry age for the 2023 season: 26

It’s frankly amazing that Jackson is so close to free will, or at least franchising. He won the 2019 NFL MVP award and was eligible for a more than a year extension. Recent comments from Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta suggest that Jackson is taking his time, a prudent approach given the upward trend in salaries for high-profile quarterbacks.

Marcus Mariota happy to reunite with Arthur Smith: I really believe in ‘what he does’ | NFL.com

Smith and Mariota were together in Tennessee in 2019, Mariota’s final season with the Titans and his final season as a starter. Mariota was in considerable trouble that year, and coach Mike Wrabel, under whom Smith had served as offensive coordinator, had no choice but to replace him with veteran bench Ryan Tannehill. The rest is history: Tannehill prospered, which led Tennessee to compete in the AFC Championship game, and Mariot had to look for work elsewhere.

He found this job in Las Vegas as a stunt double who saw the shots from time to time. With this tape in hand and an existing relationship with Smith, Mariota moves to Atlanta to reunite with his former coordinator. But there is a question we must first answer: why does Mariota want to play for a manager who was part of the team that once put him on the bench?

“Well, he was always honest,” Mariota said of Smith on Friday. “Even up to that point in 2019, when things weren’t going well for me, he always shot me straight. I think as a player I really appreciate it. He was always focused on making me feel better; in and out of the pocket, how I digest offense, how I see defense, he always made it his mission to just find small areas to improve.

Deshawn Watson, portrayed as Browns quarterback, maintains innocence amid allegations | NFL.com

The 26-year-old was asked how he can convince Browns fans that he is not the man the lawsuits are about.

“I understand that all the circumstances are very difficult,” he said. “Especially for the female fans in this community. I’m not naive about this. I know these accusations are very, very serious, but as I said, I have never assaulted any woman. I have never disrespected any woman. I was raised by a single mother who has two aunts, sisters. That’s who raised me. I was raised to be sincere and respect everyone and everything around me. So I have always defended it and I will continue to stand by it. I just want to be able to show who I really am in the community and be there to help people and serve other people.”

In a franchise-changing trade, let’s not forget who plays quarterback for the Chiefs.

Life after Hill

On Thursday, the Leaders began to embrace their entire new world.

And here’s the key: when they enter life after Hill, they won’t rely on energy. replacement – quicker reinvention. Seen from this point of view, there is something that can be a little exciting.

Since 2018, the Chiefs have relied on Hill to stretch the field, opening opportunities for Kelce in the middle and midfield and doing his best to run enough to keep the opposing defense fair. The system worked—and worked well—until the league as a whole made its adjustments in 2021: big doses of double-high-cover shots and the tough commitment that Hill, despite being the fastest player the league has to offer, will not move away from the last defender.

Mahomes had to learn to adapt, as did pass catchers. Instead of making, say, seven to ten deep shots per game, he needed to take two or three opportunities. Sometimes it happened and sometimes it didn’t, but Mahomes and company made enough mid-season adjustments to snap eight straight wins and nine out of 10 to secure second place in the AFC.

After 10 sq. NFL playoffs, it looked like the Chiefs were doomed to win their second Lombardi Trophy in three years. We understand what happened after that.
