A multi-police partnership involving nearly 300 peace officials has led to the arrest of 31 people in recent days in connection with child pornography.
This is the result of investigations launched in the fall of 2022 by several units distributed across numerous police forces, notably those of Longueuil, Quebec, Montreal, Laval, Gatineau and the Sûreté du Québec.
“In total, more than 275 police officers were mobilized for the operation,” said the Integrated Child Pornography Combating Team, which coordinated the operation.
The people, all arrested between January 23 and 26, ranged in age from 37 to 79 years. All of their homes and places they used were ransacked, resulting in the confiscation of computer equipment.
The suspects, all of whom have appeared, face charges including luring, preparing to commit a sex offense against a child and making available to a child sexually explicit material.
Some have also been arrested for sexual interference, solicitation of sexual touching, sexual assault, and access to, possession, distribution and production of child pornography.
“It is thanks to the rigorous and tireless work of all the police officers and prosecutors involved that such results are possible,” said Lieutenant Marc-Antoine Vachon, head of the integrated team to combat child pornography.
