American video game publisher Epic Games is paying $520 million as part of an agreement with the United States Consumer Protection Agency (FTC), which has accused it of failing to adequately protect underage gamers from its featured game, Fortnite, according to a statement Monday.
Part of the sum, $275 million, relates to complaints related to the collection of data about underage players and their contact with adults. The remainder, or 245 million, relates to in-game purchases made by underage players who were unaware of a payment.
