Children died after drowning on the beach, possibly by their mother

A relative of the three minors drowned on a beach Coney Island, New York, called 911 to raise awareness that the victims’ mother may have committed an atrocity, so authorities quickly arrived to deal with the case. However, they found the three little ones unconscious and later pronounced them dead.

The tragic incident has shocked the citizens of the area, but the agents have not yet confirmed the official report on whether the mother was responsible for the tragedy. Likewise, the troops believe the woman has mental health problems and was taken to a hospital after questioning for this reason, local media newspaper The New York Post notes in a report.

The victims are a 7-year-old boy, his 4-year-old sister and a 4-month-old baby. They were found unconscious around 4:40 a.m. three blocks from their mother’s home, the NYPD reported.

The Chron portal identified 30-year-old Erin Merdy as the suspect responsible for the fateful event, who was found alive elsewhere on the beach, police reported to local media. She is also believed to have drowned them, but so far it’s all speculation.

“The woman was walking around in a dress, soaked through, barefoot and not communicating with officers,” New York Police Department chief Kenneth Corey said at a news conference.

Eventually, the woman was questioned at a police station in the area and police will continue to investigate the case.
