Children in the Gaza Strip who do not die from Israeli bombs risk dying of hunger, disease and dehydration, denounced Alexandra Saieh from the NGO “Save the Children” this Thursday.
The situation is catastrophic and civilians, especially minors, are paying the highest price for the ongoing violence, the activist criticized in an interview with an Arabic television station.
A week ago we were warned that the total number of children killed in Gaza in just a few weeks was higher than the annual number of all conflicts combined since 2019, he stressed.
Saieh warned that thousands more were reported missing in this coastal enclave and were believed to be buried under the rubble, meaning the death toll could be much higher.
If we do not reach an immediate ceasefire, the situation will worsen, he said.
Days ago, the executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund, Chaterine Russell, said she was appalled by the situation in the area and called for a cessation of hostilities.
“Nothing justifies the murder, mutilation or abduction of children, acts which constitute a serious violation of rights which Unicef condemns unreservedly,” Russell said.
“I am also deeply concerned about the measures taken to cut off electricity supplies and prevent the entry of food, fuel and water into the Gaza Strip, decisions that could endanger the lives of many minors,” he said, referring to the blockade imposed on Israel.
