Investigations continue in New Zealand after the bodies of two children were discovered in suitcases sold at auction. Your family members may reside in South Korea.
The search continues to find out what happened to the two children found dead in suitcases being auctioned in New Zealand. The New Zealand Herald reported Sunday that a relative of the young victims, aged between five and 10, may be in South Korea. “We confirm that she is in South Korea and is a New Zealand citizen of Korean descent,” a South Korean police official told AFP. She would have come to the country in 2018. Last Thursday, New Zealand Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia indicated that his teams are working with Interpol in particular on these investigations. “We have received inquiries from foreign agencies. I can’t say more,” he commented.
The bodies were discovered on August 11th. Manukau County Police said in a statement last week that they are investigating the bizarre murder case. “From what we know so far, we can say that the people who received the suitcases are not involved. The police have called for their cooperation and support them,” it said. “These people are understandably concerned about the discovery and have requested confidentiality. We make sure they are supported,” Tofilau Faamanuia added on Thursday.

Both children have been dead for years. Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua told the press last week that the task now is to identify the victims and find out how they died. “What I can say is that we are making good progress with DNA research,” he said. “We are doing everything we can to solve the investigation and understand what happened to these young children. It’s not an easy investigation,” he added. He said homicide investigations, “horrific cases like this one,” are particularly difficult for his teams, especially members who are parents themselves.

The warehouse where the suitcases were stored prior to sale was searched, but police were reluctant to give too many details about what they knew about the tenants or owners of the house, fearing it would jeopardize the investigation. CCTV images have also been examined since the macabre discovery.
