Chile will increase vaccination against Covid 19 and influenza

As announced by the Undersecretary of State for Health, Cristóbal Cuadrado, from next month the population will have the opportunity to be vaccinated against influenza and SARS-CoV-2 at the same time.

“We prepare for airway contingency every winter,” Cuadrado said.

With this goal, vaccination options for people are being expanded and communication campaigns on the importance of vaccinations are being intensified.

So far, only 24.73 percent of the target population went to health centers to be vaccinated with the bivalent vaccine, which protects against both the original strain of SARS-CoV-2 and the omicron variant.

The antigen is used, among others, in people over 50 years of age, as well as in health workers, immunocompromised patients or people with chronic diseases and personnel performing essential functions in the direct care of citizens.

Authorities attribute the low interest in vaccinations to citizens’ low risk perception of the pandemic.

The day before, 17 deaths and 2,347 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Chile, representing a 26.7 percent increase in the number of infections over the past week.
