Chilean President Gabriel Boric announced this Thursday (16) that he is separating from the social scientist Irina Karamanos, with whom he had a relationship for five years. In a lengthy Instagram post, the Chilean leader expressed his appreciation for his now exgirlfriend, describing her as “extraordinary in every dimension in which a human being can be understood.”

“A few weeks ago we decided to separate in our romantic relationship as we had different views on our intimate future. However, we have decided (or rather we know) that we will remain partners forever,” said Boric.

In his statement, the president also sent messages to those he classified as “bettors on possible misfortunes,” assuring that the decision to break up is not related to relationships with other people:

“None of us have other partners, and everything was discussed in detail like two people who have spent the most intense years of their lives together. We love each other infinitely and will continue to love each other,” Boric said, adding, “We know that speculation will be the order of the day in the coming days, and although we would have preferred to experience this process in private, we both understand that it is better to tell this story yourself and let those who would invent or project it leave unacknowledged desires to others only with their own echo.

The couple had been together since 2019 and during Boric’s 2021 presidential campaign, Irina chose to stay out of the spotlight.
