We hear a lot about Russian hackers, but there are also those who think that the most dangerous hacker is a state. And there is something worse than a hacker state, a “hacker empire,” and that is how China has described the United States.
Technicians at the China Computer Virus Emergency Response Center have identified the spyware that carried out a cyberattack on the Northwest Polytechnic University of China. It was nothing less than the National Security Agency (NSA) using a virus it had developed. This software is called “SecondDate” and is a cyber espionage weapon that can enable eavesdropping and hijacking of network flow, attacks and the insertion of malicious code and other malicious functions. According to experts, developers must have a very deep understanding of cyber technology, especially network firewall technology. This involves installing a series of content filtering firewalls and proxy servers on target network devices, allowing the attacker to take complete control of those devices and the traffic flowing through them. This allows the attacker to steal other hosts and users on the target network in the long term and serve as a “forward base” to launch additional cyber attack weapons against the target network at any time.
The Chinese investigation shows that the mastermind of the attack was the NSA Information Division’s Customized Access Operations Office, which reports to the Data Reconnaissance Office.
The investigation also uncovered so-called “Springboard servers” that are remotely controlled by the NSA. These would be found in Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India and Taiwan. They allow the United States to plan long-term information thefts and deploy more offensive cyber weapons.
The Chinese Global Television Network (CGTV) has recalled that the US government has been systematically accusing China of cybercrime since 2013, but now the very US security agency has been caught red-handed in cybercrime.
Nothing new, back in June 2013, Edward Snowden, an employee of this security agency, uncovered evidence showing the US government’s policy of intercepting domestic and international telephone and Internet communications, including long-term penetration of servers at Huawei headquarters ( China). ) and, among other things, monitoring the communications of senior executives of this company.
Recently, in June 2022, there was a cyberattack on Northwestern Polytechnic University in which a group of hackers from outside China attempted to steal sensitive data.
China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center (NCERT) released a report in September 2022 saying that TAO has carried out tens of thousands of malicious cyber attacks against Chinese cyber targets in recent years, giving it control of tens of thousands of cyber devices and more stole more than 140 GB of valuable data.
Relevant sources told the Global Times, the newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, that the true identities of those involved in the NSA cyberattacks will be revealed by the media in due course. According to the newspaper, all this information will show the world “the US government’s indiscriminate cyberattacks on other countries.”
When you hear about a hacker, you don’t think of a little boy hiding in a basement in a dark sweatshirt and hoodie. Most likely it is a US official paid by Biden.
