China hopes the US will address Taiwan related issues prudently and appropriately, says spokesman

BEIJING, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) — A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Friday that China hopes that the United States will fulfill its obligations, address Taiwan-related issues prudently and appropriately, and not interfere in the elections in the Taiwan region at all Shape.

It was reported that the White House National Security Council recently held a press conference on the Taiwan election via teleconference. An anonymous White House official noted that the United States is committed to the one-China policy, does not support “Taiwan independence” and supports cross-strait dialogue. The official added that the United States does not take a position on the final resolution of the cross-strait differences as long as they are resolved peacefully.

Responding to a question at a daily news conference, spokeswoman Mao Ning said China had noted the U.S. official's comments. The One-China principle is a prevailing international consensus and the political basis of China-US relations. “Taiwan independence” represents the greatest threat to cross-strait peace and stability and is doomed to failure.

US leaders have repeatedly stated that they are committed to the one-China policy, do not support “Taiwan independence,” do not support “two Chinas” or “one China, one Taiwan,” and do not seek to use the Taiwan issue as a tool to use a tool to contain China, said Mao.

China hopes that the United States will honor these commitments, address Taiwan-related issues prudently and appropriately, end official interactions with Taiwan, stop sending false signals to secessionist forces leaning toward “Taiwan independence,” and not get involved in the elections “Interfere in the Taiwan region in any way,” Mao added.

If the United States truly hopes to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, it must explicitly oppose “Taiwan independence” and support China's peaceful reunification, he added. End
