According to a uncovered report, China is working on advanced brain warfare technology that will include devices that can put enemies to sleep and control their minds.

Researchers have found two recent studies by China's People's Liberation Army that show the military is expanding its “hard power” weapons with new technology to win wars without conventional weapons.

The biological weapons are thought to induce sleep, impair perception and attention, and influence decision-making, the Washington Times reports.

China is also said to be developing weapons that can be controlled directly by a soldier's mind and can manipulate enemies.

Other weapons the Chinese army is said to be working on include “genetic drugs” that are reportedly capable of altering people's genetic and physiological characteristics and affecting cognitive, emotional and behavioral characteristics.

The report, “Warfare in the Cognitive Age: NeuroStrike and the Advanced Psychological Weapons and Tactics,” was released earlier this month by research group The CCP Biothreats Initiative.

“The PLA is at the forefront of integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces and novel biological weapons into its military strategies,” the researchers concluded.

Cognitive warfare devices include anti-sleep glasses that can increase alertness, while other weapons include “soft-kill radio waves” that use electromagnetic energy to make enemies sleepy, the report said.

“In summary, the PLA’s integration of cutting-edge technologies such as AI, [brain-computer interfaces]“The addition of biological weapons to its military arsenal adds significant psychological dimensions to warfare that go beyond their physical effects,” the report said.

A 2022 Chinese army report identified “five insight battles” to shape future conflicts.

“The goal is to create strong deterrence and asymmetric advantage,” the report continued.

Analysts found that the research is being conducted by two Chinese military organizations, Unit 94969 and Unit 96812, which develop defensive and offensive cognitive warfare.

It comes days after a declassified intelligence assessment found that China, Russia, Iran and Cuba have all attempted to interfere in the 2022 US congressional elections.

According to the report, there is strong evidence that China approved “efforts to influence a handful of midterm elections” involving candidates on both sides of the ballot.

It is likely part of a series of directives from Chinese Communist Party leaders to “intensify efforts to influence US policy and public opinion in favor of China” that have been ongoing since 2020, the assessment said.

China redoubled its efforts to divide rival parties in the United States, but focused primarily on a few specific candidates, the assessment said.
