China today commissioned the first phase of a large-scale power plant powered by solar and hydroelectric power. It can supply 700,000 households annually and is located at an altitude of 4,600 meters.
The structure called Kela is located in the southwestern province of Sichuan and is capable of generating electricity 2 billion kilowatt hours per yearthe equivalent of 600,000 tons of coal.
It is connected to Lianghekou hydroelectric power station and when the project is completed, It will supply almost 300 billion kilowatt hours per year for 100 million homes.
Its size is 16 million square meters, includes more than two million solar panels and requires 527,000 batteries.
