This Friday, China expressed its opposition to Israel's settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories and to the unilateral change in the status of Jerusalem, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.

According to spokesman Wang Wenbin, the Jerusalem issue should be resolved through negotiations between the parties concerned in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

“As Palestinian-Israeli tensions continue to rise and the risk of an escalation of the conflict in Gaza increases, the parties concerned must exercise caution and avoid any steps that could lead to escalation or cause the situation to spiral out of control,” emphasized the speaker.

According to UN figures, there are more than 700,000 Jewish settlers in settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, despite global opposition to this expansionist policy.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 war and annexed the entire city in 1980 – a move that was never recognized by most of the international community.

Many countries believe that the Jewish colonies undermine the foundations of a future peace process to resolve the dispute.
