247 China warmly welcomes Turkey’s active participation in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries, which gives new impetus to promoting common development, Chinese Ambassador to Turkey Liu Shaobin said during a meeting with the media on September 1st. He added that the expansion of the BRICS countries has historical significance and serves the common interests of emerging and developing countries. This is another important milestone in solidarity and cooperation between developing countries. The meeting in Johannesburg in August included Saudi Arabia, Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran.

Ambassador Liu Shaobin stressed that China cannot make decisions on admitting new BRICS members as this is an issue that requires consensus from all member countries of the bloc. He pointed out that the BRICS countries are fundamentally an economic and not a political issue.

“BRICS is a platform to promote economic cooperation between countries that share common goals and challenges. The focus is on finding solutions to economic and development issues such as trade, investment and technology cooperation,” Liu Shaobin emphasized.

This statement comes at a time when the world is closely monitoring the increasing rapprochement between Turkey and the BRICS countries, which has led to discussions about Turkey’s possible entry into the bloc.

In addition, the Chinese ambassador took the opportunity to highlight the importance of cooperation between BRICS member countries in the context of the developing global economy. He stressed that BRICS plays a crucial role in promoting global financial stability and strengthening the voices of developing countries on the international stage.
