China’s Foreign Ministry says arms sales to the island “seriously violate” agreements reached with the US.
sputnik US military support to Taiwan is making the island a “powder keg” and raising the risk of sparking a regional conflict, China said, urging Washington to halt arms sales to Taipei and warning of “consequences” for countries moving into its meddle in internal affairs.
Asked about the TaiwanUS defense industry forum held in Taipei earlier this week, which brought together a number of US and regional arms sellers, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said continued arms sales to the island ” the US is seriously violating” previous agreements.
“Recently, US and Taiwanese authorities have stepped up military collusion. A delegation of 25 [empresas] Arms dealers invaded the island and stuck with the authorities [taiwanesas] the ‘Defense Forum,'” the spokeswoman said, adding that the meeting was just “further evidence that the US is turning Taiwan into a ‘powder keg,’ which only causes trouble for our Taiwanese compatriots.”
At the event, Taiwanese officials said they would seek help from Washington to develop a new generation of fighter jets, hoping to get assistance in designing an aircraft from start to finish.

For the past year, Taipei has complained of delays in shipments of US weapons like Stinger antiaircraft missiles as manufacturers diverted shipments to Ukraine. The issue has worried some US lawmakers.
