BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) — Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Sunday that China will fully implement the policies laid down by the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) and open new avenues in diplomacy of major Chinese Features in 2023.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a symposium on the international situation and China’s foreign relations in 2022 via video conference.

The event was jointly organized by the China Institute of International Studies and the China Foundation for International Studies in Beijing.

Looking to the future, the foreign minister pointed out that China will uphold its original aspirations and founding mission, China’s road to modernization, peaceful development, global vision, high-level opening-up, independence, dialogue between civilizations and their fighting spirit, while the new road , to become a modern socialist state in all aspects.

In 2023, China will fully implement the guidelines laid down by the CPC’s 20th National Congress and break new ground in diplomacy for major countries with Chinese characteristics, Wang said.

“First, we will take better care of the diplomacy of the heads of state and core tasks,” he added.

Taking into account the country’s most fundamental interests and ensuring that its work is consistent with the core tasks of the Party and the nation, China’s diplomatic front will accurately interpret changes and respond wisely; It will take measures to carry out transformations and do everything possible to prevent and mitigate major external risks and challenges, the foreign minister said.

Second, China will expand comprehensive diplomacy in a coordinated manner.

Wang said China will deepen strategic mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia; will seek to recalibrate China-US relations and put them back on track; promoting the solid and steady growth of China-Europe relations; it will deepen friendship, mutual trust and alignment of interests with neighboring countries, and strengthen solidarity and cooperation with other developing countries.

“Third, we will continue to strive for the greatest possible convergence of interests in global governance,” Wang stressed, adding that China will hold up the banner of building a community with a common future for mankind and vigorously defend mankind’s common values.

Based on the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, China will firmly uphold the UN-centric international system and the global order upheld by international law, and achieve more consensus, unite more forces, and take more action for the cause of global development and security, he said.

“Fourth, we will actively engage in high-quality development and opening-up,” he said.
