China with 14 flood deaths and 47 aftershocks

China today reported the deaths of at least 14 workers trapped in a flooded mine in Hebei province (north) and 47 aftershocks after a powerful earthquake in Taiwan (south), with no casualties.

Authorities said rescuers are still searching for a person who went missing during the first incident that was accurately recorded at an iron quarry in Qianxi County.

In addition, they launched an investigation to determine the causes of the tragedy and promised to punish those who spread false information about it.

Taiwan, meanwhile, experienced nearly 50 aftershocks – including a magnitude 5.3 tremor – after a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck western Taitung County last night and was felt in three mainland China provinces.

The tremors did not cause any fatalities, but caused damage such as the collapse of ceilings and walls, power cuts and ruptures in the hydraulic system pipes.

Images published on social networks show supermarkets with shelves and products on the floor, as well as the collapse of infrastructure due to the effects of earthquakes.
