China vowed on Tuesday to increase its coordination with Russia “no matter” how its deadly war in Ukraine has shaped geopolitics.

“Regardless of how global dynamics unfold, China will, as usual, step up strategic coordination with Russia,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry assured Russia’s Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov.

NATO CALLS ON CHINA NOT TO SUPPORT “RUSSIA’S WAR EFFORT” AND TO USE “CONSIDERABLE INFLUENCE” FOR PEACE

China announced on Tuesday that it will send a delegation to eight Eastern European countries in what will be the first diplomatic mission to the region since the Russian invasion began on February 24.

Special Envoy for China-Central and Eastern Europe Cooperation Huo Yuzhen will lead the delegation for Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia, China’s Director-General for European Affairs Wang Lutong announced on Tuesday.

It’s unclear whether China will address the war in Ukraine, but tensions between Beijing and the West have remained high since the invasion began.

Earlier this month, China accused the US and Taiwan of “playing with fire” after drawing comparisons between the Ukraine-Russia war against Beijing and Taipei.

The US has also threatened to hit China with sanctions if Beijing is found to be supporting a Russian war effort or helping Moscow bypass Western sanctions.
