China's special envoy will hold a second round of shuttle diplomacy on the crisis in Ukraine

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) — Starting March 2, the government of China's special representative for Eurasian affairs Li Hui will conduct the second round of shuttle diplomacy to find a political solution to the Ukraine crisis, as Mao Ning said today announced Wednesday, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.

Li will visit Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Germany and France as well as the European Union headquarters in Belgium, the spokesman said.

“Two years have passed since the crisis fully escalated. The war is still dragging on,” Mao said in response to a question on the issue at a daily press conference, noting that restoring peace was the most urgent task at present.

“The sooner the peace talks start, the fewer the losses will be,” he said.

In the past two years, China has not relented in its efforts to promote peace and talks, he noted. China has maintained intensive communication with Russia, Ukraine and other relevant countries and played a constructive role in dealing with the crisis.

China released a document titled “China's Position on the Political Resolution of the Ukraine Crisis” and sent a special envoy to carry out shuttle diplomacy, the spokesman noted.

China has never stood by, aggravated the situation or exploited it for selfish purposes, but everything it does leads to the goal of building consensus to end the war and paving the way for peace talks, he said.

China will continue to play its unique role, conduct shuttle diplomacy, build consensus among all parties and bring Chinese wisdom to promote a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine, he added.
