Chinese and Egyptian foreign ministers reach key consensus at talks in Cairo

CAIRO, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — In the past decade since the establishment of the China-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the two countries have ushered in a golden era of leaps and bounds in bilateral relations under the strategic leadership of the two leaders, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said today, Sunday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a joint press conference following talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, the Egyptian capital.

Wang pointed out that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Egypt Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and said that looking ahead, under the leadership of the two leaders, this partnership will undoubtedly enter an even longer decade.

The two ministers held fruitful discussions and reached a broad consensus, Wang said.

First, the two countries will further deepen strategic mutual trust and strongly support each other in safeguarding their core interests.

China appreciates Egypt's valuable support on issues affecting China's core interests, especially the Taiwan issue, and will continue to strongly support Egypt in protecting its national sovereignty and security and successfully pursuing a development path adapted to its national conditions, Wang said.

Second, the two countries will cooperate in high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative to achieve higher-level mutual benefits and win-win results.

China stands ready to work with the Egyptian side to implement the outline of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries for the next five years and deepen practical cooperation in various fields, continue to support Egypt in promoting its economic and social construction and to import more high quality products. Quality products from Egypt and encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Egypt, Wang said.

Third, it is necessary to strengthen dialogue between civilizations and achieve deeper people-to-people exchanges between both sides.

China stands ready to work with Egypt to promote cooperation in the fields of culture, youth, think tanks and vocational training, and will continue to encourage more Chinese citizens to visit Egypt and experience the charm of its ancient civilization, Wang added.

Fourth, the two countries must maintain closer communication and cooperation on regional and international affairs.

Egypt is a major Arab, African, Islamic and developing country. This year, China will host the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum and the new session of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum. China hopes to work with Egypt to take China-Arab States-China-Africa collective cooperation to a new level and build a high-quality South-South cooperation model, Wang said.

The Chinese Foreign Minister once again congratulated Egypt on becoming a new member of the BRICS group and expressed China's willingness to work with Egypt to strengthen BRICS cooperation, jointly advance global governance to build a just and orderly multipolar world and a Promoting inclusive economic globalization benefits everyone.
