A Chinese dog owner dyed his golden retriever scarlet to show him off on social media – as some netizens expressed concerns it would harm the dog.

A video shows the owner, from Guangzhou, south China’s Guangdong province, holding the puppy – now a dark pink – and looking at the camera.

Golden shades of fur can still be seen around the eyes and nose of the unimpressed-looking puppy’s face, but most of his fur has turned a bright pink.

Black glasses also appear to have been painted onto the pet in another clip while the cameraman laughs.

Some netizens expressed concern about whether the human hair color used by the pet owner would harm the dog.

But the heavily tattooed owner claimed he spoke to a vet, who had told him the color wouldn’t harm his pet golden retriever at all.
