Chinese Foreign Minister begins Africa trip in Egypt

The minister will visit Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and Ivory Coast by the 18th to follow up on the agreements in the China-Africa Leadership Dialogue, prepare for the 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum and consolidate cooperation with these nations.

In this regard, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning recalled that President Xi Jinping made three proposals to support industrialization, agricultural modernization and talent development on the continent during the China-Africa Leadership Dialogue last August.

According to official data, China has been Africa's largest trading partner over the past decade, with bilateral trade recording a 14.8 percent year-on-year increase in 2022.

Recently, the Asian giant's President Xi Jinping underlined the friendship, mutual trust and common goals that Beijing and Cairo share.

“In recent years, China-Egypt relations have flourished, practical cooperation in various fields has brought fruitful results, and friendship between the two peoples has deepened,” he stressed.

According to Mao, Wang Yi will continue his international tour in Brazil and Jamaica from January 18 to 22, with the aim of raising the level of cooperation and improving communication and coordination on important international and regional issues.
