Chris Evans described rescuing his beloved boxer mix Dodger as the “best decision” of his life in a new interview with BuzzFeed Celeb.

While playing with a bunch of puppies and answering questions about his new film and his past work, the Lightyear star, 41, reflected on how much joy adopting his pooch in April 2017 brought him.

“I always thought if I adopt a dog or rescue a dog, it would be a little puppy,” he told the outlet.

The Knives Out actor continued, “Dodger was a full grown dog. It wasn’t the story I had in mind, but it was the best decision of my life. I just think a lot of adult dogs and older dogs get overlooked and that’s a shame.”

Over the years, Evans has made his love for his dog known to the world, regularly posting him to his Instagram and even tattooing his name on his chest.

The Boston native originally adopted Dodger after filming a scene for his film Gifted five years ago.

“One of the last scenes we shot was in an animal shelter, a kennel,” the actor said in an interview with People shortly after adopting Dodger. “I foolishly walked in thinking, ‘Are these actor dogs or are these actual adoption dogs?’ And indeed they were, so I was walking up and down the aisles and I saw this one guy and he didn’t belong there.

He continued: “I caught him and he’s such a good dog. They aged him to about one, he acts like a puppy, he has the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves children, he is full of love.”

Dodger has since become a mainstay of the Captain America: The First Avenger star’s social media accounts.

He shared a post on National Rescue Dog Day last year showing a video of him adopting Dodger for the first time.

As Evans approached the fence separating him and Dodger, the dog began wagging its tail wildly before sniffing and licking the movie star’s hand.

“I had no intention of rescuing a dog that day but when I saw him I knew he would come home with me,” the star wrote in the caption.
