Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered an ACL tear in week 15 of the 2021 season and underwent surgery in early January. On Monday, when Godwin’s three-year contract with the team was announced, Godwin was understandably asked about his rehab.

“I’m recovering very well,” Godwin told reporters. “So far I am very pleased with this process. It is clear that this is a long time. So [I] can’t really project too far into the future. I just try to do it day in and day out, like I’ve done my whole career. But I like where I am now. I feel confident this season, I’m glad that many guys are back. It’s been a long journey and I’m ready to be a part of it all.”

In terms of injury, Godwin compared the records to quarterback Tom Brady, who had an ACL tear in the first week of the 2008 season.

“We talked a bit, but we play in a different position and recovery is different for everyone,” Godwin said. “We are all different people, we all react differently. I think the best advice I got from him and other people is to just attack it like you attack something else and that’s what I’m going to do. I don’t know any other way. I’m just thrilled to be back, thrilled to be healed. Sometimes you take for granted some little things – walking, cycling and sports movements. Now I find joy in those things again.”

Eventually, he will find joy again in big things like playing football against the pirates.
